VILLAGE OAKS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Lotus Bank continues to grow its partnership with Village Oaks Elementary School in Novi, Michigan.

Tuesday, April 29, 2008 had been designated as the Teach Children to Save Day. The Teach Children to Save Program developed by the ABA Education Foundation was created to bring a clear and thorough understanding to young people of basic money and savings concepts and why those are important.

Jennifer Burley, Banking Officer along with Satish Jasti, CEO and other Lotus employees presented and discussed saving strategies, and various economic concepts with the school’s third grade classes. The presentation included games and activities aimed at developing concepts about saving, how compounding interest makes money grow, how to budget and determining needs and wants.

Lotus Bankers were at Village Oaks Elementary school to help prepare future customers for financial success. We are excited to bring economic lessons in Social Studies to life for Village Oaks third graders by applying real life experiences.

MASON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CAREER DAY

Mason Elementary School in Detroit hosted a Career Day on May 28, 2008. Lotus Bank employees, Jennifer Burley, Banking Officer and Usha Chinoy, Personal Banker participated in the Career Day event for the second year in a row. The school uses Career Day to “help students identify and learn about the characteristics of particular jobs”.

Lotus Bankers discussed the different job responsibilities within the bank to the third grade class of 22 students. They also presented ways to help the students understand how to raise money and also ways to save money. Examples included finding summer job opportunities within their neighborhood and discussing the concept of wants vs. needs when it comes to spending their money.

The students were given the opportunity to relate and share their own stories about their experiences related to banking. It was a very rewarding experience for the children as well as the two presenters from Lotus Bank.
