There's Been A Change in The Detroit Tigers Facebook Basket Giveaway

Posted Date: Friday, August 29, 2014

Dear Facebook Fans of Lotus Bank,

First off, we’d like to thank everyone that has “liked” our Facebook page and participated in our Detroit Tigers promotion by letting us know who your favorite Tiger is. We have really enjoyed seeing the responses and there certainly are some great players out there that you all know and love!

It has been a lot of fun and we’re looking forward to announcing the big winner very soon. However, the Major League Baseball Advanced Media has thrown us a “curve ball” as part of the promotion and we were notified we cannot give tickets away as part of a contest! We are looking forward to awarding the Detroit Tigers gift basket on September 2nd unfortunately, the tickets cannot be a part of the prize.

What, No Tickets???

We were notified by MLB Advanced Media (you can read the letter in full here) that we would be violating licensing agreements, even though it was our CEO who donated four of his season tickets to help make it possible for someone (and their three friends) to enjoy a Tigers game. We figured it would be a great way to spread some good will in our community, increase Facebook engagement and celebrate the Detroit Tigers.

We had several discussions with MLB Advanced Media legal department, as well as the Detroit Tigers legal department in an effort to secure proper approval to proceed. But after a lot of back-and-forth we ultimately “struck out” and they wouldn’t budge on the licensing restrictions and ordered to remove the tickets as part of the prize.

Words cannot express how embarrassed we are for this oversight and are sorry for the error on our part. Not sure if you’ve ever read the fine print on the back of a ticket before, but it’s pretty small and apparently we should have looked a little closer :-). But since we don’t want to violate any rules the tickets had to be removed and, we’ve decided to provide you with this explanation to be fully transparent and let you know what happened.

Still Some Great Prizes...

On September 2nd, we will still be very excited to award the basket full of great Detroit Tigers gear, which also includes a $25.00 gas card and $25.00 Visa® gift card. To help make up for the “foul ball” on our part, we’re including an extra $100 Visa® gift card, so you can use it to buy some snacks and have friends over to watch the game (and the food’s on us).

Thanks for your understanding and best of luck to everyone who’s participated in the contest. Feel free to leave your comments below if you wish. Happy to hear what you have to say!

Sincerely,
Rob Smigielski
